166th Anniversary of Sepoy Mutiny celebrated in Binnakandi
Sepoy Mutiny Memorial Protection Committee organised a tribute and remembrance meeting for the martyred soldiers of Sepoy Mutiny today in Binnakandi Second Block. The programme organised on the occasion of 166th anniversary of Sepoy Mutiny was presided over by Y. Moni Singha, President of the organising committee. Writer, littérateur, researcher and ex-principal Abidraja Majumdar was the keynote speaker in the programme organised on the historical occassion of sepoy mutiny. He gave a valuable speech detailing the main events of the Sepoy Mutiny. The last and biggest historical battle of Sepoy Mutiny took place in Binnakandi area of Lakhipur. On the morning of 12th January, 1858, the rebel army of this country engaged in a direct war with the Britishers. 17 Indian soldiers were martyred by the Britishers in that historical area of Binnakandi. Marking this place, tributes and commemorations have been held here for the past five years which happened today on Thursday as well.
In the programme, BJP leader cum Manipuri Development Council Chairperson Reena Singha spoke as a distinguished guest. Binnakandi Ghat GP President Helen Babu Singha, land donor TH Kalimohan Singha, TH Sarasikanta, Gopal Singha spoke on the occasion as invited guests. The Indian soldiers of the motherland sacrificed their lives at the hands of the British at that time but did not surrender. They were the pride of our country. It is our duty to remember them and pay tribute to them, the speakers present in the programme said.
Keynote speaker Abidraja Majumdar highlighted the patriotism of Indian soldiers by providing important information. He said that this glorious history of past should be informed to the new generation. He also briefly mentioned how at that time the common people helped and supported the Indian soldiers.
