169 positive in Cachar, 2 dead in SMCH; DC Jalli inaugurates Plasma Therapy Centre
Breaking all records so far, 169 individuals have tested positive for COVID19 till 7:00 PM on Thursday in Cachar. The district health department informed that 157 of the 169 have tested positive in the tests conducted using the Rapid Antigen Test Kit.
The administration has launched a testing drive in Cachar where they are randomly testing people in busy areas like markets, commercials complexes, etc. “It is because of this drive, the number of individuals testing positive per day has increased significantly,” informed the spokesperson of the district health department.
Meanwhile, Dr. Prosenjit Ghosh, deputy superintendent, Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that two individuals have succumbed in SMCH due to COVID19 infection. 70-year-old, Sentulal Saha, resident of Karimganj’s Badarpur Ghat area was admitted to SMCH on July 31 and was shifted to ICU on August 1. He died earlier yesterday. The other individual who died due to COVID is 50-year-old, Vivekananda Road, Karimganj resident Asab Uddin. He was admitted to the hospital on July 26 and was in ICU since July 27.
Dr. Ghosh also informed that 214 patients are amitted in COVID wards at SMCH and out of them 12 are in COVID ICU while 2 are in Screening ICU.
Today, SMCH added another weapon in its arsenal to combat COVID19 outbreak. Cachar DC, Keerthi Jalli inaugurated the Plasma Therapy Centre in SMCH and two PG Students of the medical college donated plasma.
“Today, SMC&H started plasma bank. Till the time a vaccine is developed, plasma will help save lives. And, it has a role in reducing death rate as well. One of the benefits of having the bank in SMC&H is that it will be easier for people to come here and donate,” Jalli said while inaugurating the plasma bank.
“The entire plasma therapy treatment will be free of cost to all the patients admitted to the hospital. The donors will have no weakness whatsoever after plasma donation as red blood cell count returns to the patients,” said Principal of SMC&H, Dr. Babul Kumar Bezbaruah.
