174 positive in Cachar, 4 dead in SMCH; Administration assures increase of beds in ICU

Another day of a high number of COVID positive cases in Cachar. The district administration informed that 174 individuals have tested positive in the district till 7:00 PM on Tuesday.

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta asserted that four patients admitted in the COVID Ward have succumbed in the last 24 hours.

The death rate has increased in Silchar Medical College and Hospital and the administration has identified the late arrival of patients as the main reason behind it.

A lot of the patients arrive at SMCH at the eleventh hour leaving very little room for treatment. DC Cachar feels that there is a not of rumour which has shaped a very negative perception in people’s mind. “People are saying there is no treatment done in SMCH, it is not true. Most of the medicines are administered intravenously so, the patient does not realise. Antiviral and antibiotics are given under the supervision of specialists doctors, so, it is important that we do not believe in rumours,” said DC Keerthi Jalli.

She assured that the capacity of beds in COVID ICU will be increased very soon. A couple of days back, the deputy commissioner had visited Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) to take stock of the construction work.
