18 Burmese cows recovered while being smuggled, Cachar Police arrests three smugglers from Sonabarigaht
18 Burmese cows have been recovered from three smugglers by Cachar Police in Sonabarighat. The Burmese smuggling racket finds new items and contrabands every day and every time Cachar became the corridor connecting Burma with the rest of India after areca, cigarettes, Yaba tablets and vulnerable species of animals, this time the smugglers tried their hands at Burmese cows. The 18 cows were recovered from a truck and three people have been arrested in this connection.
Based on a secret input, a team led by Sadar Police Station OC has apprehended a truck from the highway connecting Mizoram in Sonabarigahat. After the search operation of the truck, 18 cows were found cramped inside with no space left at all. Upon interrogation by the police, it was found that the truck was coming from Mizoram and was on its way to cross Assam via Cachar. When the police found the cows to be smuggled from Myanmar, they recovered the cows and sent them to a cattle shelter.
The three people arrested in this connection are Sahid Ahmed Mazumder, Rahim Uddin Laskar and Nazir Uddin Laskar. The truck used to smuggle the cows, bearing registration number AS 11AC 4867 has also been taken into the custody of the police. The 18 cows have been kept at Silchar Gaushala in Budurail for care and treatment.
A caretaker of the Gaushala upon receiving the cows said, “We received the cows from the police this morning. The cows are in very bad condition as they were cramped inside the truck. Most of them have injuries and need care and treatment. These cows are not from here, it can be clearly said given their physical appearance. We are estimating each cow to be around 90 thousand rupees, which means roughly cows worth 16 lakhs were being smuggled”.
