56-year-old Dipankar Das has succumbed at Silchar Medical College and Hospital earlier today. He had tested positive for COVID 19 and was admitted to the COVID ward at the SMCH. As per the information shared by the district health department, he was a resident of Link Road and had recently returned from Kolkata after undergoing cataract surgery.

The district health department also informed that till 5:00 pm, four individuals have tested positive for the COVID 19. Three of them tested positive on Rapid Antigen Test Kit and one of them on RT-PCR.

The district health department also informed that currently there are 25 active Coronavirus cases in the district. Seven of them are being treated at the COVID ward of Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

As earlier, the reports of the deceased person will be sent to the death audit board which will determine if it is a death due to COVID.

In the last 24 hours, more than 1.31 Lakh individuals have tested positive in the country. The spike is alarming and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has urged the citizens to follow COVID protocols. However, rallies and meetings of politicians continue flouting all COVID guidelines.

Please Note: The administration has updated the number of people tested positive today to eight from four.
