20 Covid isolation Railway coaches reached Badarpur; To be used during emergency
The Northeastern Frontier railway has deployed around 20 railway coaches turned isolation centres, containing total 350 beds, a railway official said on Thursday.
In the relentless fight against Covid, the Ministry of Railways are taking rapid action to swiftly move Isolation Coaches to places of demand (made by respective states) mobilising workforce and material for this task.
As the number of people afflicted with COVID getting steep surge in last few days, the Assam government has rammed up its health care infrastructure to provide space to more patients. Accordingly the railway coaches are called in.
More such railway coaches are being placed at Guwahati, Lumding, Bongaigaon & Tinsukia stations.
The state health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for assistance. “Grateful to PM Sri @narendramodi for helping Assam with rail coaches to act as Covid Care Centres. 20 ± coaches each (350 Oxygen beds) are being placed at Badarpur (pics), Guwahati, Lumding, Bongaigaon & Tinsukia” he tweeted.
Sharing details, a senior railway official informed that they have received communication of setting up the 20 railway isolation coaches at Badarpur station and accordingly works have been initiated. “We have been asked by the division to ready up 20 isolation coaches at Badarpur station and accordingly we are working” the official shared to this website.
He added, the coaches were prepared last year only and are being redeployed on the direction of higher authorities.
