215 positive in Cachar, 5 died in SMCH in last 24 hours; Admin stops COVID testing at Urban PHC

Cachar district administration informed that 215 individuals have tested positive on Tuesday. 185 of them were tested using the rapid antigen test kit. The spokesperson said that several lab-technicians who were in testing duties have themselves tested positive for the virus.

“We will chalk out a new plan. The testing drive will get disrupted due to lack of available resources,” said Suman Choudhury, media expert, district health department.

He added, “Due to some unavoidable circumstances, tests in Urban PHC will not be held until further notice. However, people intending to go for tests can visit ISBT.”

On the other hand, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that five patients admitted to the COVID ward succumbed in the last 24 hours. Four of the five are from Cachar district and one is from Hailakandi.

Gupta also added that 31 new patients took admission in SMCH in the last 24 hours while 23 were discharged. There are 11 patients in COVID ICU whereas 2 are in screening ICU. “Condition of 12 patients is critical at this stage,” informed Dr. Gupta.

The district administration and SMCH authorities urged the general public to get tested early. “Several patients are getting admitted with oxygen saturation levels below 70. There is very little that the doctors can do when the patients are brought in the eleventh hour. The moment one sees cough, cold or any such symptoms they must get tested,” said Suman Choudhury.

Early detection can cure COVID19 infection.
