3 more tests positive in Silchar Post Office, the number rises to 7

Three more officials from the Silchar post office have tested positive for the COVID19 virus. The building located in Dak Bungalow Road just opposite deputy commissioner’s office provides essential service of delivering postal duties.

A senior officer in the Post Office said that before today, they had four officials who tested positive. “One female employee developed Influenza-Like Illness and she was immediately placed under home quarantine. She had actually come from outside and later tested positive for the infection. Then we had three others who tested positive for the virus,” said the officer.

Apart from the four Post Office employees, the home guard who was deployed to keep the building secure had also tested positive.

As per available information, among the three who have tested positive today, there are two postmen and one official. “We see the number growing further up. The job is such that they have to travel all around the district and while doing so they remain exposed to the virus,” said the officer who requested not to be named.

The district health department confirmed that three officials associated with the Silchar Post Office have tested positive for the virus.
