32 positive in Cachar including one student of NIT Silchar; 6X jump in cases
Cachar reports one of the biggest surge in COVID numbers in recent times. Yesterday, five individuals had tested positive in the district. Today the number has jumped more than 6X.
The district health department informed that 32 individuals have tested positive for COVID 19 in Cachar till 6:00 pm on Monday. The number can surge further as many RT-PCR reports are awaited.
Out of the 32, 15 have tested positive on the Rapid Antigen Test kit while 17 others through RT-PCR.
One student of the National Institute of Technology has tested positive for COVID19. Dr. Nalin Behari Dev Choudhury, Registrar of NIT Silchar confirmed that a student has tested positive. However, he is still not sure if the student has a recent travel history. “We plan to get 350 students, who are at the campus tested within a day or two. We have written for the kits and now it depends on the availability,” stated the Registrar.
He added that this is the first time in 2021, a student of the premier institution has tested positive for COVID19.
