4.7 magnitude earthquake jolts Silchar and other parts of Assam

A low intensity earthquake has jolted most parts of Assam including Silchar.

According to National Center for Seismology, the earthquake was of 4.7 magnitude in richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was located to be Sonitpur, Assam. It occured at 5:54 pm in Indian Standard Time. The depth of the quake was measured to be 10 km underground.

A youth living in Ambicapatty, Silchar said he couldn’t understand or feel the tremors. Another senior citizen living in a multi storied in Tarapur told he only realised there was an earthquake after coming across a post on Facebook.

However, a female resident of Guwahati’s Beltola area said she was asleep and the tremors woke her up from her slumber.

Cachar’s DDMA confirmed that there were no reports of loss of any property or life.
