43 New COVID postive cases in Assam; 20 from Hailakandi, 2 from Cachar

20 individuals tested COVID19 positive from Hailakandi registering the biggest one-day-spike in the district. Sources also tell us that two individuals are from Cachar district too making it 22 from Barak Valley.

Health minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted a while back stating, “Alert ~ 43 new cases of #COVID19+ 5 Dhubri, 5 Golaghat, 3 Barpeta, 1 Bongaigaon, 29 by various labs (dist to be confirmed).”

Though the minister did not mention Hailakandi, sources in the health department informed that 20 individuals in the list are residents of the district. Most of them had returned from Pune and other parts of the country.

When reached out to the Joint Director, health services, Dr. Ramesh Chandra Dwivedy about the status of the patients, he said, “Yes, we have heard that 20 patients from the district tested positive in different labs but we are yet to get the final list from the competent authority, so, it is yet to be confirmed.”
