49 positive in Cachar, 11 in Hailakandi, Karimganj 15; 409 active cases in Barak Valley

Cachar district health department has informed that 49 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in the district on Thursday. Six among them are air passengers who have travelled to the district from outside Assam.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that 29 patients are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. Out of them, 19 are in COVID Ward and 10 in COVID-ICU. “Two patients have been put under ventilator and both of them are in critical condition,” informed Dr Gupta.

Currently, the number of total active cases in Cachar district stands at 291.

In Hailakandi district too, the number Covid-19 cases are increasing at a brisk speed. From six cases yesterday, it has gone up to 11 today. With this, the total number of active cases move up to 23.

In Karimganj district, 3896 samples were tested on Thursday and out of them 15 tested positive. With this, the number of active cases in the district goes up to 95. Nine patients were discharged on April 22.

It is worth mentioning here that Silchar Medical College and Hospital remains the only facility in the entire Barak Valley with capabilities of providing critical care. At this stage, there 409 active cased in the Valley.
