After Dibrugarh, an inhumane incident took place at Silchar NIT. Siddhant Pottho, a fourth semester student of NIT Silchar, was assaulted by senior students and is currently undergoing treatment at JJIMS hospital. The incident took place inside the NIT campus on Friday. 

Siddhant Pottho, a fourth semester student of Computer Science Department said that after leaving his private car infront of hostel number 6 and 7 on Friday for meeting a friend, he found that the car was damaged by some sixth semester students. When he asked the reason for this over the phone, some senior students from the hostel came out and attacked him.

The senior students beat him with glass bottles, hockey sticks and also punched as well as kicked him. Siddhant’s head, neck, chest, abdomen and waist were severely injured due to the assault. During the assault some teachers of NIT were also present who rescued Siddhant and sent him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

At Silchar Medical College, severely injured Siddhant was subjected to various tests. Later his parents admitted him to a private hospital in Meherpur for better treatment. Siddhant’s father Sudip Pottho filed an FIR at Ghungoor Police Outpost accusing 18 students for the whole incident.

Speaking to reporters Siddhant Pottho said, “Some seniors of fourth year came in a mob and assaulted me. I know the assaulters. They hit my head with glass bottles, punched me and kicked me. My friend was also badly beaten while trying to save me. The issue arouse when I discovered at night that the tyres of my car were deflated by someone and the car was also damaged to some extent.

He added, “In the morning when I called a mechanic to change my tyres he told that someone had stabbed the tyres 6-7 times. I came to know about the person who did that so I called him and said that I will file an FIR against him at Ghungoor Police Outpost. Within 10-15 minutes, they came and badly assaulted me infront of professors. Infact the professors tried to save me but they didn’t listen to them.”
