5.5 magnitude earthquake jolts Silchar
An earthquake jolted Silchar at 10:45 pm on Saturday (10 November). Available reports suggest it was an earthquake of 5.5 magnitude on the Richter Scale. The epicenter is presumed to be in India-Myanmar border around 79 kilometer east of Aizawl, Mizoram.
A resident of Tarapur tells us that he was having his dinner when all of a sudden the electricity went off. “As we reached out for emergency lights, we realised that the table, bed and all were shaking. Immediately we rushed down to the ground floor. By the time we reached from the first floor, it was all back to normal.”
Another resident of Link Road living in a multi-story building says he was sitting on his sofa set, “And all of a sudden it started shaking heavily. But by the time I could reach the door, it was all over.”
