5 doctors who treated Corona patients in SMCH completed 14-day- quarantine; given warm reception
The first batch of five doctors out of 42 which include Dr Bhaskar Nath, Dr Nilanjan Thakur, Dr Surya Brata Choudhury, Dr Nishanth Thakuria, Dr Prasenjit Roy was released from Cachar Club on April 22 ceremonially in presence of forest, excise and fishery minister Parimal Suklabaidya, deputy speaker Aminul Haque Laskar, Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, MLA Dilip Kumar Paul, Cachar’s deputy commissioner Barnali Sharma, SMCH Principal Dr Babul Bezbaruah among others.
It is important to mention here that the five doctors who were sent to institutional quarantine at Cachar Club on April 6 to keep a check on them getting infected with Covid19 as they were serving patients since March.
It is pertinent to mention that the first case of coronavirus in Assam was detected on March 31 at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Since then, the frontline fighters were on their duty.
Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma stated earlier that all the batches who attended the covid patients for seven days will be sent to quarantine for 14 days. Following the government guidelines, a total of 42 medical staff which included doctors, paramedical and cleaning staff were sent to institutional quarantine.
Sharing their quarantine experience, while talking to the media, one of the doctors got emotional. He said as per government guidelines they stayed away from the family in a single room all alone and it was a heartbreaking situation. But now as they got released, they are once again happy.
Parimal Suklabaidya thanking the almighty added that he feels blessed to have such dedicated fighters in the state, who served without any hesitation and fought fearlessly.
Dr Rajdeep Roy, who himself is a doctor, also shared that he understands the pain of staying away from family for so many days, and it must have been really very hard but the responsibility of a doctor is to serve the patient first. DC Barnali Sharma also took the opportunity to thank the doctors for their service.
