59-year-old man placed under home quarantine in 2nd Link Road tests positive; administration traced contacts
59-year-old resident of 2nd Link Road lane number five tested COVID positive a while back. Biswajit Das has recently traveled back to Cachar from Kolkata and was allowed to remain under home quarantine considering his age.
“What we must appreciate wholeheartedly is the fact that Biswajit Das had sent his family members elsewhere before his arrival to avoid contact with them. He lived in isolation and did not come in contact with any of his family members or neighbours,” said Suman Choudhury, media expert, District Health Department.
His swab samples which were collected on arrival tested positive and Choudhury informed the patient after they got the reports. An ambulance was also sent to his house and to shift him to the COVID ward in Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
“We have traced down two people who came in contact with Das. They are the auto driver who drove him home and his brother. We have collected their swab samples and they will remain under quarantine till we get the reports,” added Choudhury.
Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, VP SMCH informed that in last 24 hours four new patients admitted to the COVID ward in SMCH. He informed currently there are 39 patients in the COVID ward of SMCH of which 37 are male and two female. 141 patients have been discharged so far and two succumbed to coronavirus infection while under treatment.
Gupta added that SMCH has so far tested 21,435 samples.
