71st Gandhi Mela and Exhibition inaugurated today by DDC Rajiv Roy

Like yesteryears, the traditional and popular Gandhi Mela and Exhibition of Silchar was inaugurated today. District Development Commissioner (DDC) of Cachar Rajiv Roy officially inaugurated the 71st Gandhi Mela and Exhibition by cutting the ribbon. In today’s programme organised as Sahid Divas, various dignitaries and municipality officials paid tributes to the portrait of late Mahatma Gandhi by offering garlands and wreaths.

After that, the invited guests explained the significance of Gandhi Mela and Exhibition besides highlighting various aspects of Mahatma Gandhi’s life in the programme. District Development Commissioner (DDC) of Cachar Rajiv Roy, Executive Magistrate of Silchar Municipality Board Ashutosh Deka, Former Ward Commissioner of Ward No. 24 Madhumita Sharma, Educationist Sourendra Kumar Bhattacharjee and leftist leader Rafiq Ahmed were present on the occassion.

Emphasizing the significance of Gandhi Mela, DDC Rajiv Roy said, “Gandhi Mela is inaugurated every year on the occassion of Sahid Divas. The fair goes on for the next 30 to 55 days. The last two years we couldn’t inaugurate the fair due to covid pandemic. The main aim of this fair is to amalgamate people of Silchar as well as Cachar district belonging to rural as well as urban areas. There will be exhibition by different departments. Different offices and shops will be exhibited in the fair including handicrafts. I would like to thank everyone present on this occassion and I hope that the fair management committee headed by General Secretary Ashutosh Deka, Executive Magistrate of SMC will conduct the fair nicely. I hope that after the lull of two years, people will come and visit the fair which would be beneficial to both the sellers and buyers.”
