8 from Cachar, 56 from Hailakandi visited  Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi; 9 returned, 32 still stuck in Delhi

Tablighi Jamaat, the religious gathering that happened from March 13-15 is in the headlines. The religious gathering held at Alami Markaz Banglewali Masjid in Nizamuddin also featured guests from Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Kyrgyzstan. With a number of positive cases emerging from the same gathering in Delhi and other cities, the authorities have been on high alert.

As per reports, at least 24 more people tested positive in Delhi on Tuesday and it was learned that they had also attended the religious congregation of Tablighi Jamaat. They are among some 300 people who showed symptoms and have been moved to various hospitals to be tested. Another 700 have been shifted into quarantine centres in Delhi informed the Government. Nine people who have died due to the Coronavirus had a connection with the Tablighi Jamaat event.

People from Cachar and Hailakandi (no details about Karimganj yet) also attended the event in Delhi. As per available information, 8 individuals from Cachar went to attend the Religious congregation. None of them have returned to the district. As per available information, they are still at the Alami Markaz in Nizamuddin which is now being evacuated.

Total 56 numbers residents from Hailakandi district had visited New Delhi with effect from 1st January 2020 out of which 9 members have returned on March 10, 2020. The administration said all of them have been put under home quarantine with effect from March 10, 2020, after a thorough medical checkup on arrival. Out of the remaining 47, 32 are still in Markaz Delhi and the remaining 15 proceeded towards Rajasthan. It is not clear if they are still in Rajasthan or returned to Hailakandi.

Health minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma twitted stating the State has received two lists of people who attend the event in Nizamuddin. In the first list, there were 299 names and in the second one another 157 names.

Sarma twitted, “Held an urgent Video Conference with all DCs & SPs advised them to take swift & strict measures for all those who returned from hotspot at #NizamuddinMarkaz of #TablighiJamaat. All of them shall be quarantined by evening.”
