In a successful joint operation conducted by the local police and Assam Rifles, a major drug smuggling attempt was thwarted in Lakhipur’s Hmarkhawlien village. Acting on a credible tip-off, the authorities seized a substantial quantity of heroin, weighing 88.05 grams, concealed ingeniously inside 8 innocent-looking soap boxes.

The operation resulted in the apprehension of the smuggler, identified as Manik Uddin Laskar. The suspect, hailing from the neighboring state of Manipur and a resident of Jiribam, was taken into custody during the raid.

Following his arrest, Manik Uddin Laskar reportedly confessed that the seized heroin was intended to be sold in Hmarkhawlien village.
