8th and 10th: "Used to study 10 hours a day," Anisha Roy; "Never give up," Paarsaa Tasneem Barbhuiya

Class X results are out. School leaving certificate examination is often recognised as the first leap in a professional career. The  2019 -20 batch has leapfrogged. Though, where you end up in the merit list does not guarantee a bright future, slot in the top 10 is no mean feat.

Barak Valley’s two students managed to make to the esteemed list topped by Padum Pukhuri High School’s Dhritiraj Bastav Kalita with 595 out of 600.

Holy Cross’ Anisha Roy secured 8th position with a total of 586 out of 600. She scored a bull’s eye 100 on 100 in General Science, 97 in English, 99 in General Mathematics, 97 in Social Science and 97 in Advanced Mathematics, and 96 in Hindi. The Public School road resident says the result excited her. “I didn’t think I will make it to the merit list, my father did, however,” says Roy.

She adds, “I worked hard for this, used to study 10 hours a day. I had this problem of getting distracted whenever there was someone talking around me and that is why I used to study during the night while everyone was asleep.”

Going forward, Roy wants to be a doctor.

10th position holder, Silchar Collegiate School’s Paarsaa Tasneem Barbhuiya is a resident of Hitesh Biswas Sarani. “My parents, teachers helped me achieve this,” says Paarsaa.

100 in General Science, 100 in Advanced Mathematics, 95 in English, 98 in General Mathematics, 99 in Social Science, and the lowest of 92 in Bengali got her to 584.

“A lot of hard work went behind this result. My parents supported me the most especially by staying up late. After putting all the efforts when you make it to the merit list it motivates you to work harder in the future,” opines Paarsaa.

Like Anisha Roy, Paarsaa also wants to be a doctor, “That has been my dream from childhood. Moreover, now when we are in the middle of the pandemic we surely realise the importance of medical science,” she asserts.

Anisha’s message for her juniors is “Even if you do not score well in school examinations keep working hard for the boards.” Paarsaa Tasneem Barbhuiya concludes, “Never give up.”
