Water crisis in Tarapur; PHE says will restore supply by tonight or early tomorrow
Water crisis in Tarapur, residents are in deep trouble. While the entire city is busy celebrating the auspicious occasion of Christmas, Tarapur residents are dealing with one of the worst water crisis of recent times. Most of the Tarapur residents are dependent on water supply which has suddenly discontinued since last 60 hours. Day before yesterday Tarapur residents last received water supply from Public Health Engineering (PHE) department. Since then, without any notice or prior information the PHE stopped its water supply.
“Due to the ongoing construction work of the new bridge in Sadarghat over river Barak, we were forced to shift three pipelines to an adjacent location. We already shifted two successfully and attempted to shift the third one day before yesterday. After finishing the necessary work, while testing, the pipeline suffered some damages resulting to major leakage which forced us to stop the water supply,” informs plant incharge Amitabha Choudhary.
Meanwhile, Tarapur residents have expressed their grief and anger at the manner in which the PHE handled the situation, “If there is an issue the citizens must be informed so that they stock adequate amount of water for necessity. There was no such information or communication from the PHE which is why most of us are in deep trouble. There is no water to drink, cook food, take a shower or even respond to nature’s call, which is a really uncomfortable situation,” says a Tarapur resident.
The PHE spokesperson has however stated that the repairing work is just a couple of hours away from completion post which they would be in a position to supply water, “What ever materials were required to fix the leakage have already arrived and the engineers are on the ground fixing it. The pipeline would be ready by tonight and we have plans to supply some water tonight to bail people out of trouble. I can assure that tomorrow morning supply water would reach residents’ house as usual,” adds plant in-charge Choudhury.
Well this statement would certainly bring some relief to the people living in Tarapur area.
