Aim to promote debates, quiz; Organisation to be launched in Silchar on January 12

With the vision to encourage youths, especially students, to participate in debates, group discussions, extempore speech and other brainstorming activities, an organisation is going to be launched in Silchar on January 12.

The organisation, which will hold symposiums from time to time on debates, quiz events and group discussions, will be launched at Hotel Riya Palace on that day. Srijato Bandopadhyay, a noted poet, will grace the occasion as the chief guest.

Speaking at a news conference in Silchar on Monday evening, the organisation’s chief convener Sabyasachi Rudragupta said the main objective of forming the organisation is to revive the trend of organising debates, quiz contests and group discussions and encourage youths in such productive activities.

Apart from this, the organisation will also organise events on writing, sketch and such other creative things. The culture of writing and drawing sketches among youths is gradually fading into oblivion and there is a need to resurrect this. The organisation will work to keep the practice alive so that budding writers and artists get a platform to showcase their talent in front of people, he said.

Co-convener Debosmita Biswas they would come up with many other initiatives in the coming days so that people, especially youths, who wish to present their talent in front of people but are unable to do so due to lack of opportunities, get a platform and their aptitude receives recognition, she said.

“We will get in touch with different educational institutions and reach out to students having interest in such creative things. We can organise events with them as well,” she said, adding she was very much optimistic that the citizens of Silchar would extend their co-operation and support on the organisation.

Another co-convener Shibam Das said a video album would be launched on that day by the chief guest Srijato Bandopadhyay. 28 artistes from Barak Valley and Tripura have worked in the album, which is based on a song “Ami Shunechi Sedin Tumi” by Mousumi Bhowmik, he said.

The members, however, kept the name of the organisation a “secret” and said it would be announced on that day (January 12). Among other members, Adhisthita Sharma and Santanu Acharjee were present.
