The plan is to work in close coordination with the common people of Cachar, says new DC Laya Madduri
“I have always received immense respect from my colleagues and the people of the Northeast. I think respecting women is a part of the nature of people living in these regions,” these are the words of the incoming deputy commissioner of Cachar Laya Madduri.
IAS, Meghalaya/Assam cadre Madduri has been working in Assam since 2010 when she joined as a provisionary officer in Nagaon. “I am aware of Barak Valley and this part of Assam, but this is the first time I have been officially posted in this region,” says Madduri.
Born and brought up in Andhra Pradesh Laya Madduri has a B-Tech in mechanical engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS) Pilani. Currently, she is posted as the deputy commissioner of the tea town of Assam Dibrugarh. Known as a workaholic, Madduri is a name taken with respect in Dibrugarh and the adjacent areas. Her seriousness about her duty surfaced when she joined office within two months of her delivery instead of going for prolonged maternity leave. She is credited for executing many initiatives in Dibrugarh, “My plan is to work in close coordination with the people of Cachar,” she says.
In an exclusive interaction with Barak Bulletin, the IAS said that she has many plans and proposals related to Cachar district but she would like to devote her initial days in interacting with people of the district and understanding the issues, “I believe if the local residents cooperate, it is possible to solve every problem,” asserts Madduri.
She is known for her drive for cleanliness and hygiene and as she has worked aggressively to ensure cleanliness. While asked if she has particular plans to work in a similar direction in Cachar where it is a teething issue, the IAS refused to make a comment, “It won’t be fair for me to make a comment before occupying my office,” she concludes.
