Chit fund case: Chandrabangshi Nidhi Limited MD Rathindra Das Laskar arrested
Rathindra Das Laskar, managing director of Chandrabongshi Nidhi Limited, was arrested by police on Tuesday for allegedly swindling people for money.
According to sources, Laskar was arrested from his office at Ambikapatty around 5pm this evening.
A number of customers, who were allegedly swindled by Rathindra, had gathered when Laskar was brought to the police station.
Earlier in the evening, a group of customers went to the office and asked about their money. Soon after, a heated argument took place between the staff and customers. Police later reached the office and arrested Laskar.
Speaking to Barak Bulletin on Tuesday evening, Raju Laskar, a resident of Masimpur and one of the customers, said he had gone to Chandrabongshi Nidhi Limited in April last year after seeing an advertisement in a newspaper on loans. There he met Rathindra who told him that he needed to pay Rs. 1 lakh (Rs. 50,000 fixed, Rs. 25,000 for a life insurance and Rs.25,000 as processing fees) to get a loan of Rs. 7 lakh.
Accordingly, Laskar paid the amount and Rathindra asked him to take the cheque of Rs. 7 lakh on April 24. As per their talk, Laskar contacted Rathindra, who told him that the cheque would not be available on that date and gave him another date to collect the cheque. Laskar thereafter collected the cheque on that next date and submitted the cheque to the bank. The next day, Laskar got a call from the bank that the cheque got bounced.
When Laskar informed this to Rathindra, the latter told him that there was some issue with his bank account and asked him to take the cheque on another date.
Laskar collected the cheque again and the same incident (cheque bounce) happened again.
All the cheques given by Rathindra got bounced (five times in total), Laskar said.
