Fire in an under construction building in Rongpur; spoils house-warming celebrations

The residents of Rongpur were forced to wake up in the middle of the night as an under-construction building in the area was under fire. At around 1:00 AM past midnight, flames were noticed in the first floor of a house located in Narasingha Para, Rongpur part IV.

The house under fire is identified as Gautam Nath’s newly built residence. An electrician by profession, Nath celebrated his house-warming yesterday but before he could cherish the landmark moment of his life, the fire started haunting him.

As per eye witnesses, there were stacks of bamboos, wood, polyvinyl chloride pipes (PVC), clothes, plastic chairs and tables kept on the first floor of the residence all of which have burnt to ashes. “Locals gathered and started splashing water which brought the fire under control,” adds the witness.

While the source of the fire is yet to be determined, few of the locals believe that a candle was lit on the first floor which caused the fire. While others suggest an unstubbed cigarette was thrown at the dry wood lying on the first floor which caused the fire. The fire brigade was informed, but the locals got the flames under control before the engines could reach the spot.

“It was shocking to see such high and big flames coming out of Mr. Nath’s house. All of us (family members) woke up from our asleep. The males of the family went out with buckets while we were praying to god,” says a female member of the house.

Gautam Nath, his wife and two daughters shifted to their new house yesterday and was inside when the accident took place. Luckily, no human being got hurt in the incident, however, the losses are yet to be determined.
