Militant nabbed in Karimganj, guns recovered

A suspected militant was apprehended during a joint operation by police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Srirampur in Karimganj district late on Sunday night.

According to sources, a team of police and CRPF jawans carried out an operation on the basis of a tip-off at Srirampur around 2am last night and nabbed Joymoni Chorai (34) from his house. Srirampur falls under Singlacherra gaon panchayat under Ratabari constituency, around 115km from Silchar. Joymoni had been evading the eyes of the police for a long time, sources said.

Two guns were recovered during the operation. Joymoni, who was grilled thoroughly by the police to find out details like his links with other outfits and his accomplices, was produced before a court in Karimganj on Monday and sent to judicial custody.
