Two struck by lightning in Cachar, hospitalised; Met forecasts more thunder-squalls

Two persons were injured after being struck by lightning at different places in Cachar district on Monday.
One of the individuals has been identified as Monojit Bauri (40), who was injured in Barthal village under Lakhipur revenue circle. Another person (identity not known till last available information) suffered injuries in Kathal village under Silchar Sadar revenue circle. The injured persons were sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Four villages have been affected because of the squall, which wreaked devastation in different parts of the valley. Two villages fall under Silchar Sadar revenue circle and two under Lakhipur revenue circle. Over 20 kutcha houses have been damaged.
Atleast two persons have died after being struck by lightning this year in Cachar district. This include Sabita Rani Das in Kathal gain panchayat under Silchar Sadar revenue circle and Jugamaya Das in Leverputa, Part-II under Katigorah revenue circle.
A bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department, Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati on Monday afternoon (time of issue – 1:40pm) said thunder-squalls with wind speed of around 60-70km per hour may occur in four districts including Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi and Dima Hasao within the next three hours. Chances of moderate rainfall are also there, the bulletin said.
