Fully confident about Sushmita Dev's win: Harish Rawat
Congress general secretary Harish Rawat said on Tuesday that the party is “fully confident” about Sushmita Dev’s victory in Silchar seat, especially after the recent roadshow by Priyanka Gandhi, which received an “overwhelming response” from the common masses.
Priyanka, who visited Barak Valley for the first time on Sunday, had taken part in a roadshow in Silchar to campaign for Sushmita Dev. The roadshow, which started from Club Road and ended at Rangirkhari, was for about two hours. It saw a massive crowd, especially youths and people tea garden communities, who were seen lustily cheering the Priyanka while she was interacting with people during the roadshow.
At a press conference this morning, Rawat said the “overwhelming response” to Priyanka’s roadshow has impacted the mood of voters and make the picture of Sushmita’s victory very much clear. The massive crowd has ignited the Congress’s prospects and they are confident that the party will retain the Silchar seat for sure, he said.
Talking about the Northeast and Assam, Rawat said the problem of floods in Assam, which causes devastation almost every year, will be treated as a “national problem” if the Congress comes to power. A new industrial policy will be launched for the Northeast, including Assam and Assam’s special status will be restored if the Congress comes to power, he said.
Regarding Silchar, Rawat said Silchar is having the capacity to become a hub of trade and commerce. The Congress, if comes to power, will make it an international trading zone, he said.
Congress members including APCC spokesperson Dipon Dewanjee, district president Pradip Dey and general secretary Partha Chakraborty were also present.
