Youths attack police officials in Badarpur, numerous injured

A group of youth allegedly attacked police officials in Badarpur which created a chaotic scenario on the road connecting Silchar with the state capital. Near Badarpurghat area a group of police officials on their way to Guwahati today evening and their van got stuck in a traffic jam. Couple of police officials from the lot got down to man the traffic. According to one of the police officials they managed to organise the vehicles to some extent and that is when a van overtook from the right and blocked the road again. The police officials stopped the van and asked the driver to get in line and not cut lanes. The driver got off the van, according to the police official, the driver asked them who they were.

“When I said we are police official the driver asked which police station. To him I replied we were from Karimganj Police and he started abusing us. He in fact mentioned that he keeps Karimganj Police in his pocket. I told him, he cannot say like this and that is when he had hit me with his key,” says the police official.

People started gathering and as per the police officials several of them got injured. Badarpur Police rushed to the spot and managed to nab two of the alleged attackers while three are still missing.

The Police officials were deployed in Karimganj to man polling stations and were on their way to Guwahati when this incident happened.
