Garland of shoe hanged on holy cross in a church in Karimganj
In a shocking turn of affairs, a garland made of shoes was found hanging on the holy cross at Presbyterian Church located Thana Road, Karimganj. The local police station has immediately started an investigation to identify and nab the miscreants as soon as possible.
Officer in charge of Karimganj Sadar Thana, Utpal Borah himself visited the church to take a stock of the scenario. Borah removed the garland of shoe from the cross and took it to the Police station for further investigation. MLA, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, MLA, Krishnendu Paul, BJP district president Subrat Bhattacharjee and other senior politicians also visited the Church. Each one of them expressed their concern and condemned the abysmal act. They also demanded for an extensive investigation.
Nimai Dey, an employee at the Presbyterian Church said that in the history of 100 years, an act as abysmal as this was never witnessed. He informed that the shoe of garland was put on the cross at around 4:00 PM in the evening. “We believe this was done to hurt the religious sentiments of a particular community. We feel this was done to scare people people and say in an indirect manner that something bigger is going to happen soon. We have requested the Police to increase the security in an around the church to avoid unfortunate incidents,” added Dey.
