2nd in Science, Govt Boys' Daisy Pathak wants to be a doctor; MLA announces cash reward

Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul, on Saturday, announced a cash reward of Rs. 50,000 to Daisy Pathak, a student of Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School in Silchar, who has secured the second rank in the merit list in Higher Secondary Examinations this year.

Daisy, who came to the school this morning with her father Anupam Pathak, was greeted warmly by her teachers and other students. Paul congratulated and fed her sweets. Daisy scored 477 marks (95.4%) out of 500. (English – 96, Alternative English – 91, Physics – 98, Chemistry – 97, Biology – 95 and Mathematics – 86).

Speaking to media persons, Paul said it was a “special day” for Barak Valley and hoped the achievement of Daisy would bring a new era for government schools in the valley. Daisy will be given the cash reward at a programme within the next few days, he said.

Sharing her reaction, Daisy, who passed her matriculation examination from Daffodils School in Silchar, said she did not expect to be in the merit list and that she was very happy for her achievement. “I am very happy. I did not expect that I will be in the merit list,” she said.

She said she studied daily and thoroughly, giving equal weightage to all subjects. “Everyone, my mother, father, teachers supported me a lot,” she said.

About her aim in life, Daisy said she wants to become a doctor in the future.
