Horrific accident in the new Sadarghat bridge; 2 critical
Today evening, in a head-on collision between a Maruti Suzuki hatchback car and a Honda Dio (scooty) on the newly built Sadarghat bridge, two individuals are feared to have incurred critical injuries.
According to traffic police official, the scooty driver was riding on the wrong side which caused the head-on collision. It is worth mentioning here that vehicles travelling towards airport from Silchar town are supposed to use the old bridge while the new one is for vehicles entering the city. “The scooty driver was riding against the law while the Maruti Suzuki Alto was on his lane,” the traffic police officer said.
The Honda Dio’s registration number plate read AS 11 J 0588 is owned by Milan Devi as per ministry of road transport and highways, Govt. Of India. The Maruti Suzuki Alto’s owner as per government record is Jasim Uddin Barbhuiya.
According to eyewitnesses, 60-year-old Abdul Munim Laskar and 32-year-old Rijon Ahmed Barbhuiya were riding on the scooty. “Abdul Munim Laskar had lost his consciousness while Rijon Ahmed’s condition was critical. Both of them have been taken to the hospital,” an eyewitness told our correspondent.
Both the vehicles have been toed to Silchar Sadar thana.
