Rajdeep Roy to work on development of Radhamadhab College; start civil service coaching centre
Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy, on Thursday, said he would seek the intervention of Assam education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya for the infrastructure development of Radhamadhab College in Silchar and help it reach greater heights of success in the days ahead.
Roy, who was felicitated at Radhamadhab College on Thursday afternoon, said he would meet Bhattacharya in the next couple of days in Guwahati and would speak to him for the development of the college.
He said the college has grown step-by-step over the years and gradually emerged as one of the prominent academic hubs in Barak Valley. He also mentioned that he would speak to chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal so that a coaching centre for civil service aspirants could be started in the college.
On his victory in the Lok Sabha election in Silchar this year, Roy said — “The victory is sweeter now, for I failed once.” — while referring to his defeat against Congress candidate Sushmita Dev in the 2011 Assembly election in Silchar.
Arunabh Bhattacharjee, assistant professor, Department of English, Radhamadhab College, said the college, established in 1971, has had a remarkable journey so far and hoped the institution would relish even better days in the future. He heaped praises on former MLA and Rajdeep Roy’s father Bimalangshu Roy saying the former MLA, who was also the president of the college’s governing body, contributed immensely to the growth and development of the college.
Probhat Kumar Sinha, principal of Radhamadhab College and N. B. Dey, president of the college’s governing body were also present.
He also applauded Rajdeep Roy and said Roy, beside being a orthopaedic surgeon, is a good human being with rich values and principles. Roy has been a leader right from his childhood, he added.
Bani Roy, mother of Rajdeep Roy also urged the masses of Barak Valley for their love and blessings on Rajdeep so that he can work and fulfill the aspirantions of the citizens of the valley. Bani Roy was also felicitated at the programme.
