Dr. Sujit Kumar Nandi Purkayastha to be conferred with 'Lifetime Achievement Award'

Former principal cum chief superintendent of Silchar Medical College and Hospital and noted orthopaedic doctor of Silchar — Dr. Sujit Kumar Nandi Purkayastha, popularly known as Dr. Nandi Purkayastha, will be conferred with “Lifetime Achievement Award” by Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences in Guwahati on Wednesday.

During his illustrious medical career, Dr. Nandi Purkayastha, who was also the Dean of School of Medical Sciences, Assam University, has won many awards from Down Town Hospital (2010), Rotary Club of Hailakandi (2017), Rotary Club of Greater Silchar (2018), Bharat Bikash Parishad (2019) and Bharat Sevashram Sangha (2019) for his excellent service to the society.

The lifetime achievement award will be conferred to Dr. Nandi Purkayastha at a programme which will be held on the occasion of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences’ second convocation at the auditorium of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday. The programme is scheduled to start at 11am.

Dr. Nandi Purkayastha completed his MBBS from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital in 1965. Thereafter, he joined as a post-graduate trainee in Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He obtained the Master of Surgery degree in 1969. He joined Silchar Medical College and Hospital as a registrar in 1970. He retired from the hospital in 2000.
