"I willingly converted to Islam and married my man" Missing Dudhpatil girl

June 21, 2019, a man went to the Malugram Police outpost and lodged a complaint accusing three individuals of kidnapping his daughter who was missing since June 17, 2019. The father was accompanied by a huge number of angry neighbors.

Dudhpatil resident, Shashi Rani Nath (name changed) went missing under mysterious circumstances. The neighbours and family members accused Afzal Hussain Barbhuiya, Amzad Barbhuiya and Salam Barbhuiya of kidnapping the girl. Three days later one of the three accused Amzad Barbhuiya called the girl’s father and informed him that Afzal and his daughter are staying together in Mizoram.

While the girl’s father and the locals gave a 24 hours deadline to the Police to find the kidnappers and rescue the missing girl, the girl, on the other hand, asked her father to calm down.

In a video message, the girl said on camera that she has willingly converted and will now follow Islam religion. In the video message, she also said that she has married Afzal Hussain Barbhuiya by choice. Shashi Rani Nath (name changed) had a message for the Police officials too where she says that the accusation that Afzal kidnapped her is completely false and Police should not get misguided by what the neighbours are saying.

The locals, on the other hand, feel that Shashi Rani Nath was forced to say all that on camera. They also alleged that the three miscreants had forcefully converted her to Islam in order to insult the Hindus living in the area.

Police refused to comment on the matter and said that they are investigating the case and will only comment once they are in a position to do so.
