Vacate encroached land by yourself or authority will bulldoze; Administration releases eviction schedule

Silchar Municipality Board has published a detailed eviction schedule with a statutory warning that this is going to happen for real. The Municipality board yesterday published an ad on local dailies urging people to vacate illegally occupied government land immediately. However, according to the Municipality board officials, they got insights from the ground that people are not taking the ads with any seriousness and so the SMB under Niharendra Narayan Tagore’s chairmanship issued another notice.

The board on its official Social Media page, Silchar Municipality Board – Conservancy poster a message in Bengali which translates, “This is for those who thought the eviction notice was just a verbal threat.” A two-page detailed schedule followed this message.

The board, MLA Silchar, Dilip Paul, and the District Administration already voiced their concern on the poor drainage condition. As we get deeper into the monsoon it is certain that the whole of Silchar will get waterlogged once again like previous years. The Municipality Board, in order to improve the condition, is cleaning various drains in and around Silchar. But, there are several establishments built in the Khal (drain) area which emerges as an obstacle for the workers. These establishments also block the flow of water causing waterlogging and that is why the authority wants those establishments evicted.

The second innings of the eviction drive will continue till July 18m 2019, it has already started today with eviction in National Highway. Assistant Commissioners of Cachar will lead the task force while the equipment will be provided by Silchar Municipality Board.
