The new Sadarghat bridge is shut and undergoing renovation

The new bridge over Barak River which was inaugurated just a few months ago and is undergoing renovation.

The new bridge over river Barak was one of the first major projects in Barak Valley, inaugurated by the BJP led government. CM Sarbananda Sonowal along with other government officials and dignitaries of the state inaugurated the bridge on 2nd March, 2019. But today since early in the morning the bridge was seen closed as big “No Entry” barricades blocked the route. This created strain and traffic during the rush hour in the old bridge.

When asked about the reason for this, workers told our correspondent that, since the work of the bridge was completed in a hurry it couldn’t be finished in a proper way. “Bitumin layer was not properly applied and thus the wear and tear,” said an engineer who wished not to be named.

To solve the problem a new Bitumin layer is being applied and according to the engineer, the work will be over within a few days.

So, for the next few days, old Sadarghat bridge is the only way in and out of the city.
