Assam University Silchar alumna Salina Sultana succumbs to Japanese Encephalitis

In a tragic turn of affairs, a student of the 2016-2018 postgraduate batch of Assam University Silchar lost her life. Salina Sultana a postgraduate from the department of Ecology, Assam University Silchar succumbed on her way from Jorhat to Guwahati. After securing a postgraduate degree in Ecology, Salina Sultana was appointed as project officer by Aranyak Society, a Beltola Guwahati headquartered nature conservation organisation. 

Salina Sultana was in Arunachal Pradesh on duty. As project officer, she used to travel all across Northeastern region. On July 12, 2019, she returned to her home in Jorhat and complained of high fever. However, neither she nor her family members took the fever seriously. Thursday, July 18, 2019, all of a sudden she lost her consciousness and she was immediately taken to the government hospital in Jorhat. After the primary checkup, the doctors at the government hospital in Jorhat said that her condition is not good and she must be immediately shifted to Guwahati for better treatment. After reaching Guwahati Medical College, Salina Sultana’s family members and family got to know that she is no more. The doctors diagnosed her brought dead and Japanese Encephalitis was determined as the cause of death.

The sudden death of a young and talented girl brought a state of shock to her friends and family. The entire Assam University was mourning the untimely death of the former student. Many of her classmates expressed their sorrow on social media. Salina Sultana got into Assam University Silchar through a government scholarship
