Cachar Police arrests 4 Bangladeshis for allegedly trapping people with fake Saudi currency
“If you give us Rs 2 lakh in Indian currency then we will give you 1 lakh Riyal (Saudi currency).” 1 lakh Riyal is around Rs 19.28 lakh and so this lucrative offer is too tough to resist.
A group of five Bangladeshi nationals often use this 1 lakh Riyal bate to trap people in Silchar. Today, Cachar police has managed to nab four out of the five and currently searching for the other one.
At Baskandi area, today the four individuals were confronted by Police officials. As per sources, the Bangladeshi nationals initially claimed that they have come to India for medical assistance. They also shared a set of fake medical documents in order to establish that they were patients and attendants. The source added that Police had prior information and was tracking the group.
All four were rushed to Silchar Sadar Police Station. Police officials informed that they have legal passports and so they are not illegal immigrants. The officials said that they were booked for carrying fake Saudi currency with them and trying to trap Indian citizens with it.
A senior official investigating the matter said that this group of four are residents of Gopalganj area located near Dhaka in Bangladesh. They were identified as Ripon Khan (32) Mohammad Asadujjaman (39), Suman Fakir (30), and Jamal Munshi. He also added that the police has recovered numerous sim cards, mobile phones and fake Saudi currency.
As per the information gathered so far, all five of them entered India through Agartala. The police also understood that they used to visit India frequently and stay at Maa Monosha Hotel in Rangirkhari. Officials believe that they have used the 1 lakh Riyal bait many times before and few even got trapped.
“They usually identify themselves as residents of West Bengal. Generally, their targets are people living in rural areas. We are investigating the matter in deep details and trying to figure out if there are more involved in this racket,” said a senior police official.
Silchar Sadar Police Station has also credited the locals of Baskandi area and said that it is because of their intelligence Cachar Police could nab the alleged fraudsters. One of the local residents was approached by the group and the resident pretended to have fallen for it. The next day when the group came to exchange fake Riyal with Indian rupees the police nabbed them.
