Eviction drive continues in Silchar; 30 shops bulldozed Meherpur

Despite repeated warnings proprietors of illegally owned shops, establishments refuse to vacate government land. These encroachments, especially near the drains, disturb the flow of water leading to waterlogging in the town. Cachar district administration along with PWD has formed a task force to conduct eviction drives in various parts of the city.

Yesterday, the drive was conducted in Meherpur, Silchar and 30 shops were bulldozed by the administration. A magistrate from district administration said that drive was conducted by the PWD with the support of district administration and Cachar Police.

He said that several notices were handed over to the owners of these illegal establishments which they ignored leaving the administration with no other choice.

The magistrate added that the eviction drive will continue in other parts of Silchar too and the ones who encroached government land must vacate it as soon as possible.
