Family members of Sonali Das, Pompa Dey cry for justice, "What was the hurry in performing last rites" they question

Just a couple of days after the horrific accident in Meherpur, Silchar, the family members of deceased Sonali Das (18) and Pompa Dey (20) have made shocking claims. Grandmother of Sonali Das, Sneholota Das faced the media today and said she was shocked by the rush that was created.

“The dead body was wrapped with polythene, they did not let us see her face properly. We Hindus perform a lot of rituals before the body is taken for cremation, we could not do any of that. She was my granddaughter. Why would I not like to see her for the last time? That opportunity was just not given to us,” said Das.

When she was asked who created the rush, she replied, “I don’t know these people, they are all high standard people, political leaders.” She added, “I know nothing can get my child back to me, but I want proper investigation and justice.”

Shanku Dey, brother of the other deceased, 20-year-old, Pompa Dey too claimed that there was a rush. “We wanted to give our sister a last shower. They did not let us take the body out of the polythene bag. We had called for a mortuary van. MLA Aminul Haque, MP Rajdeep Roy along with all other police officials did not let us wait for that. They insisted we must head to Samshan in the ambulance itself,” said Shanku Dey.

He questioned, “Where do we go for justice and who will help us in this miserable state.”
