Poshan Maah 2019: Cachar gets award for best performance in identifying severely and moderately malnourished children 

Poshan- Abhiyan is a multi-ministerial convergence mission with the vision to ensure the attainment of malnutrition free India by 2022. The objective of Poshan Abhiyan is to reduce stunting in identified districts of India with the highest malnutrition burden by improving utilization of key Anganwadi Services and improving the quality of Anganwadi Services delivery. Its aim is to ensure holistic development and adequate nutrition for pregnant women, mothers and children.  

The Poshan Maah was observed recently, in fact, in Cachar, DC Laya Madduri flagged it off on September 3, 2019, and chief minister himself visited Silchar to attend the conclusion ceremony. Throughout the month, various activities was carried out at anganwadi centers, schools, health facilities as well as in the village and community level. Special health checkup camp (T3- Talk, Test & Treat) was  organised in tea garden areas to check the anemia of the child, women and adolescent girls. This camp also focussed on the theme ‘Defeat Diarrhoea” where diarrhoeal cases were screened to create awareness and appropriate referral to the health centers.

Recently in Guwahati at an event, the Government of Assam recognised the efforts of various district administrations all across the state. In the same, Cachar district bagged an award for “best performance in identification of severely and moderately malnourished children” during the Poshan Maah.

The Cachar district administration in its official Facebook page posted, “This was possible with close coordination between health and social welfare departments. Identified malnourished children’s parents are being counseled to provide a nutritious diet to children to combat malnourishment. ADC Sumit Sattavan, IAS received the award from Hon’ble Chief Minister on behalf of the Poshan Abhiyaan team of the district.”

Hailakandi too won a couple of awards at the same event.
