Brave locals save GC College student who attempted suicide in Silchar

Today afternoon a third-semester student from GC College jumped off from Sadarghat bridge. According to an eyewitness Joydeep Ghosh, he saw a boy wearing a college uniform trying to climb up the railing of the bridge. “I was driving my auto-rickshaw when I saw the boy trying to jump off from the old bridge. We rushed towards him but by then he had already jumped off,” said Ghosh.

“Brave locals at bank of the river saw the boy jumping in and they immediately dived in to save his life. Within minutes the GC College student was rescued by the locals and Malugram Police was informed about the same,” Ghosh added.

While speaking with Barak Bulletin, ASI, Malugram Police C. Das said, “When we reached the spot the boy was already rescued. We rushed him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where he is undergoing treatment at the moment. We have informed the family and investigating the matter.”

The police officer confirmed that the boy is a second-year student of GC College. The family refused to comment on the matter and Principal of GC College, Bibhas Deb’s phone was switched off. There is no clarity on why the young boy attempted suicide.
