The controversy around the commercialization of Gandhi Bagh is refusing to settle. Today the youth congress leaders led by the national president of All India Mahila Congress and former MP, Sushmita Dev launched a signature campaign. Speaking with the media contingent outside the school, Dev said, “We all are witness to the current weather conditions in New Delhi and the NCR. Pollution is a massive issue and Gandhi Bagh, which is considered as the lungs of Silchar town as it has many trees in and around is very important for the kids, the future generations to live a healthy life.”

The former MP, said that she and her party does not have any problem with Silchar Municipality Board constructing an amusement park, “Let them do it somewhere in the outskirts of Silchar so that kids can go for a day and enjoy. We are trying to explain to the schoolgoers that if Hotel, Mall, Bar is constructed by destroying the greenery of Gandhi Bagh it would cause a lot of harm to nature.”

She thanked the students of Ramanuj Vidyamandir School who participated in the signature campaign, “We did it Cachar College in the past and now the plan is to go to each and every school in Silchar. We hope by doing so we will be able to garner the attention of SMB chairperson,” she concluded.
