New Cachar DC Barnali Sharma takes over; Laya Madduri bids adieu

ACS Barnali Sarma on Monday, took charge as the new Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, with present DC Laya Madduri, officially handing over the charges to the former.

Taking the charge, Sarma said that the Cachar is one of the most important district of the state and each of the earlier commissioners governed it very well. “My primary goal will be to continue the projects, started by the earlier DCs and to implement it more tightly. Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao and SLRM will be my prime focus and be implemented more widely. I wish everyone will come forward and help the district to achieve new goals” she said.

Barnali Sarma has been transferred to Cachar district considering the current situation of the state. Before moving here, Sarma was working as Inspector General of Prison department of the state government. She is also well known for her strong organizing and governing skills.

Laya Madduri took over the charge as Cachar Deputy Commissioner on January 28 of last year. In addition to the properly conducting Lok Sabha election, she played significant role in the implementation of several government projects like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. Her respect for Bengali language was noticed within a few days of joining. She spoke in Bengali on every occasion she attended, gradually learning the language. She was probably also the first DC to launch a ritual of speaking in Bengali.

She took the social media on surprise last September, when a video of her, singing a Bengali song went viral.

Before leaving, Laya Madduri, with an emotional tone thanked the people of Cachar mentioning, that the way people extended their support is un expressible. “Before his departure, S Lakshmanan, told me that there should be a special emphasis on cleanliness in different areas of the city. In addition to continuing the projects he started, I have taken on more new projects and in many cases were successful. This time she (Barnali Sarma) is the person who is taking charge and is a skilled personality. It is my belief that the district will improve and prosper many more with her hands.
