Mediland Diabetes Clinic associates with Cricket Tournament as Health Partner; offers basic health check-up

Crowdfunded cricket tourney Friends Cricket Tournament is up and running. The third edition of the tournament which started with the vision to generate awareness and spread brotherhood among the marwari community took place at the Football Academy Ground in Silchar. 

Mediland Diabetes Clinic associated with the tournament as the official health partner. 14 teams which include 10 young teams and four veteran teams participated in the tournament. Mediland Diabetes Clinic offered basic health check-up – Blood Sugar testing, ECG, Thyroid, Blood Pressure among many others to all the players. The players were given a fit to play certificate after the checkup.

“Surprisingly many new diabetes patients got detected during the screening. Uncontrolled diabetes and blood pressure patients were also detected and few of were found to have an underlying high risk of cardiac-related disorders,” informed Dr. Kishore Upadhyay.

The newly detected patients were advised further course of action and in some cases, few more investigation was also prescribed. Mediland Diabetes Clinic has also set up a fast aid booth in the cricket ground to provide medical assistance to the players playing in the tournament.

Mediland Diabetes Clinic is a specialised hospital that deals with diabetes, heart and obesity advises people to undergo screening. Located in Itkhola, Silchar, the clinic is equipped with modern equipment and it relies heavily on upgraded technology. Dr K Upadhyay, Dip Cardiology (PGDCC), RTIICS (Kolkata) and a fellow in diabetes (CMC) has personally equipped the clinic with modern equipment. He believes that 25% of Indians don’t even know that they have diabetes and about 50% diabetes patients have uncontrolled Sugar Levels and therefore he recommends screening.

“We offer our extended help to all the NGOs, Sports clubs and academies, for health awareness and detection camps to have a healthy tournament to avoid any catastrophe on the ground,” says Upadhyay.

By associating with sports tournaments, the clinic generates awareness about the importance of regular screenings and Upadhyay says he is open to partner more such tournaments.
