Hunger Strike in Assam University; 3 students fall sick, "Authority ignoring our pain," Students' Union

In the second day of hunger strike in Assam University Silchar, three students were stretchered to the Hospital. The Assam University Students’ Union members and a section of other students are protesting against the authority’s decision to rusticate research scholar Milon Das for a period of two years.

Biswarup Bhattacharjee, president of the Students’ Union said, “The authority is ignoring our pain. The registrar had assured us that we will get the assistance of doctors and paramedical staff during our hunger strike. However, there were no doctors near the main gate where we are protesting and therefore it is clear that the registrar wants Assam University Students to suffer by falling brutally sick.”

Bhattacharjee confirmed that yesterday one female student fell sick and today one male and one female student were sent to the hospital for treatment.

Another senior member of the Students’ Union informed that they called doctors from nearby areas as the Assam University’s health centre did not offer any assistance.
