Another hit and run case in Meherpur, Silchar; 2 injured, 1 critical
At around 11:00 PM last night, another hit and run case took place in Silchar. Rajat Kanti Paul and his wife Rupa Paul were heading back towards their home in Netaji Lane (Meherpur, Beltola). As they crossed the LIC building and reached United Flour Mill a speeding Maruti Suzuki Baleno headed towards Rangirkhari collided with the Rajat Kanti Paul’s Bajaj Pulsar head-on and left both him and his wife bleeding on the road.
Locals rushed to the spot and tried to trace the car but they said it went off from their sight before they could blink their eye. “The Baleno driver was driving fast and he could not control. There is a massive pothole right next to the main gate of the Flour Mill and the Baleno wanted to escape the bump and thus turned right and before he could realise he had already banged the Pulsar,” said an eyewitness. He added that there is no streetlight in this area due to which the frequent accidents take place. All the locals managed to notice is that it was a Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the last four digits of the registration number are 4386.
The locals rushed the couple to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where medical officers asked the family to take the patients to Guwahati immediately after checking their scans. Rajat Kanti Paul works at Silchar Municipality Board and the family members said he is 59-years-old. His wife Rupa Paul was there with him on the motorcycle and they have all left for Guwahati.
Rupa Paul’s condition is a little better, she is able to talk and is in her consciousness whereas Rajat Kanti Paul was bleeding from his ear and vomiting. Doctors, after checking the scans said he needs to undergo immediate surgery. Rupa Paul said her gold chain, gold bangles, and other jewelleries that she was wearing are missing. Their phones are missing too.
