Police nabs Abdul Haque in connection with ATM card snatching scam in Silchar

On March 6. 2020, an elderly man- Sujit Kumar Dey went inside an ATM booth located next to the National Highway Police Outpost. He failed to withdraw the money and that is when a young individual offered to help him. Dey gave away his ATM pin to the young individual who in turn helped him withdraw the cash. Dey returned home and his son realised that the ATM card was replaced. They checked their phones and found out that Rs 20,000 was withdrawn and a purchase of Rs 50,000 was made using the debit card.

Barakbulletin.com, through its sources in the banking sector, found out that the withdrawal was made from the ATM booth in College Road and the purchase was done in Maya Jewellers located in Shillongpatty. The information was handed over to Ditumoni Goswami, officer in charge, Silchar Sadar Police Station and he immediately rushed to the store to check the CCTV footage. The shopkeepers cooperated and shared all the footage with the Police officials.

Since then, Silchar Sadar Police Station has been in search of the miscreant. It was learned that he has purchased gold jewelry using ATM cards before from the same store. Late last night, Police officials managed to nab the miscreant from Saptagram village in Narshingpur, Sonai. As per Police sources, the miscreant has been identified as about 27-year-old Abdul Haque. Sources informed that he confessed about his crime and is now locked up in Silchar Sadar Police Sation. The officials believe he is associated with many such ATM scams that took place in Silchar in recent times.

From the store, he had purchased a gold-chain which was priced around Rs 51,000. Family members said that Police is investigating the matter and so far and they have not received the chain or any cash.
