Barring a road mishap, Barak Valley celebrated a peaceful Holi this year. The celebrations started yesterday (Thursday) and continued till late today evening.
Today every turning in Silchar town and its adjacent areas had Police officials and Central Reserve Police Force deputed to ensure peaceful celebrations. We did not receive any information of security breaches or violation of law of any kind from anywhere other than one hit and run case in Ranghikhari, Silchar.
One unrecognised Bolero had allegedly hit a parked auto rickshaw in Rangirkhari area. The auto-driver and two of the passengers got injured in the mishap and are admitted in Silchar Medical College. The injured are identified as, Altaf Hussain Choudhury (22 years old Son of Ali Akbar Choudhury, Rani Ghat), Mamta Begum Choudhury (19 years, wife of Alaf Hussain Choudhury) and Sanjib Paul (22 years old, son of Gauri Chandra Paul, resident of National Highway road Silchar).
Sources in Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed us that one of the three injured was admitted in a critical condition and is now fighting for life. The people in Rangirkhari who witnessed the accident informed us that the Bolero was in speed and had turned from Sonai Road side, the accident happened around 6:00 PM.
The Holi celebrations in Barak Valley started yesterday and cultural events were the biggest attraction. ‘Sur Sagar Sangeet Mahavidyalaya’ along with other organisations had organised for a procession in the morning. In the evening the ‘Club Ananya’ organised a function at ‘Gandhibag’, ‘Sammilito Sanskritik Mancha’ had also organised a cultural gathering.
Overall people across caste, community and creed celebrated Holi in a peaceful manner.
